sydney-openOn Sunday 6th November 2016, Sydney Harbour YHA and The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre opened their doors for Sydney Open 2016. An estimated 1958 people visited the site, with over 510 being taken on tours of the hostel and The Big Dig archaeological site.

Tours of The Big Dig site were run by Alison Frappell, Education & Interpretation Officer, and by Ross Lardner, Hostel Manager for Sydney Harbour YHA. Helen Nicholson kindly set up her work cataloging artefacts in The Big Dig centre, so that visitors had an opportunity to see and archaeologist in action (not just digging!) and ask lots of ‘so, what’s this?’ questions. The Sydney Open volunteers crew directed and assisted all the visitors to the site that day – busy and tiring but really worthwhile, thank you.

This was the third time we’ve been invited to participate in Sydney Open. It was great to see how curious, interested and appreciative our visitors still are!  We also received a great mention in Architecture AU.
